Mr. Obama, thanks for your keen Pragmatic and Political Insight.

The House Dems economic stimulus package has a great many possible helpful parts to it. One troubling aspect is its funding for a health care issue. Apparently, the House Dems. See a connection between a specific healthcare issue and the economy.
Namely, the funding of medicaid for STD Prevention and Contraception {perhaps also inferring abortions}. Which, in general, operate in low income areas that serve mostly people of color. (Incidentally, the number of abortions performed in this country are disproportionately for women of color.)
The justification, according to Speaker Pelosi ??
It was _not_ a compassion for the health needs of women.
It was _not_ to prevent women’s and maternal diseases that will need more care later.
It was _not_ to ensure prenatal care for healthier children. Nope !(These would, at least, be good reasons)
She claimed specifically -- "...the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government ... No apologies. No. we have to deal with the consequences of the downturn in our economy."
In other words, children of color are an economic drain and they must be stopped.
The Gig is up !Perhaps this is the common ground that some of the House Democrats and the KKKlan can agree upon.
I certainly do not. Let’s invest in healthier mothers and babies of color. One of them may be the next MLK or George Washington Carver. - Next time Fund Prenatal Vitamins instead.
Thanks to the Congressional Republicans, who started making noise...
President Obama has seen that fighting over this would be a distraction from the stimulus.
This Eugenic proposal has been struck out of the proposed stimulus package today.

President Obama Revokes Mexico City
President Obama waited one day longer than expected to begin his executive support for abortion.
Usually, an incoming president signs abortion related measures on the Anniversary day of Roe v. Wade. President Obama waited for a reason that is a bit unclear.

In any case, the Mexico City policy requires that international agencies agree not to financially support or promote abortions in order to get US federal funding. For Pro-Life advocates this is a reasonable policy so that their Tax dollars don't pay for abortions.
The detractors of the policy claim that it hurts international family Planning Efforts, by, limiting funds.
Of course, this not a reasonable argument since there are some Family Planning agencies that have agreed to the policy and do get US funding.
The Policy in action or out of action does nothing for the level of funding. It only focuses the funding.
Now, the same funds will be spread among more International Agencies. And thus not changing anything and may even begin to lack the force multiplier effect of economy of scale now that it will be spread around.
Catholics that voted for President Obama should be especially disturbed by this, since the Mexico City policy does allow for the funding of family planning around the world without the funding of abortion. The president's rescinding of the policy is completely unnecessary and thus a clear step towards promoting abortion in symbolism, policy and in fact.
Now, deeply angered anti-Iraq-war protesters and the Pro-Life movement have something in common.
They both believe that their Tax Dollars are being spent on the unjust killing of innocents around the world.
